Lakes in Pakistan, a paradise beyond Imagination!

Pakistan is home to a large number of lakes and water reservoirs, Being a Scorpio and a water sign, I myself am a big fan of lakes and places full of water, I wanted to make a list of all the lakes of Pakistan and their pictures so that one can find them and visit them with ease! When I started compiling this list, I had no idea Pakistan would turn out to be so heavenly!
      It is said that in future wars shall be fought on basis of water but we are extremely thankful to Allah that he has blessed us with so many water reservoirs! Let's start!
We would move from Sindh to Balochistan to Punjab to KPK and the finally reach heavenly lakes of Gilgit Baltistan, Chitral and Neelam Valley! Hold on to your seat belts, for this journey through Pakistan!

Lakes of Sindh:

Manchar Lake:

Well, I am sure most of you wouldn't have any idea about it, neither did I but Pakistan is home to the Largest lake in South Asia!
 The lake is spread over an area of over 100 square miles. 


2. Hadero Lake: 
(Urduہڈیری جھیل‎) is located in Thatta DistrictSindh, Hudero is important brackish water wetland of Sindh, where variety of waterfowl prefer to pass their time. It is at Hudero that one is more likely to see Swans, Storks, Crans and feeding flocks of Pelicans. It is considered one of the favourite lake of orionthologist.

3. Haleji Lake:

Haleji Lake (Urduہالیجی جھیل‎) is located in Thatta DistrictSindhPakistan. It is the Asia's largest bird sanctuary.


Did you know? Pakistan had crocodiles? Haleji lake is wildlife sanctuary for Marsh Crocodiles of Sindh! These crocodiles can increase up to 16 feet in size!




4. Hamal Lake:

Hamal Lake (Urduحمل جھیل ‎) is situated in Qamber Shahdadkot District in SindhPakistan, 58 km from Larkana city and 40 km from Qamber town. The length of the lake is 25 km and the width is 10 km and has a surface area of 2965 acres (1200 ha)

5. Drigh Lake:

Drigh Lake (Urduڈرگ جھیل ‎) is situated in Qambar Shahdadkot District in SindhPakistan, 29 kilometres (18 mi) from Larkana city and 7 kilometres (4 mi) from Qambar town. It has a surface area of 450 acres (180 ha).

6. Keenjhar Lake:

Keenjhar Lake (Urduڪينجهر جھیل ‎Sindhiڪينجهر ڍنڍ) commonly called Kalri Lake (Urduکلری جھیل ‎,Sindhiڪلڙي ڍنڍ ) is situated inThatta DistrictSindhPakistan. It is 122 km away from Karachi and 18 km away from the town of Thatta. It is the second largest fresh water lake in Pakistan.

The shrine of a famous saint of Sindh called Noori Jam Tamachi is a miracle in itself,It lies in the middle of this lake.


Lakes of Balochistan:

Hanna Lake, Quetta: 

The lake is located a little short of the place where the Urak Valley begins and 14 km from Quetta. The reservoir was constructed during the British Colonial era in 1894, and is one of the main attractions in the city.

It is present at border between Sindh and Lasbela Balochistan.

Salt Lake is a rarely visited lake at Koh e Sulaiman Ranges Balochistan! This lake is relatively unknown because of dangerous path.

Lakes of Punjab:

11. Head Marala: 

Head Marala is an artificial water reservoir at Sialkot, Punjab lying in close proximity with Himalayan Mountain ranges of Pir Panjal.

12. Dohngi Dam:

Dohngi Dam lies 2 kilometers northwest of Gujar Khan in RawalpindiPunjab.Pakistan. The Dam is a local tourist attraction for residents of Gujar Khan. In the hot Summer season, many local youngsters use the dam to bathe or swim.

13. Khabikki Lake:

Khabikki Lake is a salt water lake in the southern Salt Range area in Khushab DistrictPunjabPakistan. This lake is formed due to the absence of drainage in the range

14. Namal Lake:

Namal Lake is located in Rikhi, a village on one corner of the Namal valley in MianwaliPunjabPakistan. It was formed following the construction of Namal Dam in 1913. Namal Dam is situated some 32 km from Mianwali city. The lake has a surface area of 5.5 km². There are mountains on its western and southern sides.

15. Ucchali Lake:

Uchhali is a saltwater lake in Soan Sakaser Valley in the southern Salt Range area in Pakistan. This lake is formed due to the absence of drainage in the range. Sakaser, the highest mountain in the Salt Range at 1,522 metres (4,993 ft), looms over the lake.

16. Rawal Lake:

Rawal Lake (Urduجھیل راول‎) in Pakistan is an artificial reservoir that provides the water needs for the cities of Rawalpindi andIslamabadKorang River along with some other small streams coming from Margalla Hills have been set to form this artificial lake which covers an area of 8.8 km². Korang River is the outlet stream of Rawal Dam.
